Environmental Assessments:

Principals of RDC Group have conducted extensive environmental assessments and solid waste audits essential to ensuring enhanced waste management performance. Tasks commonly included in this type of work are as follows:
  • Development and application of sector-specific waste audit protocol
  • Development and implementation of 3Rs Action Plans, including cost-benefit analysis, market development, communications and training, and equipment procurement
  • Operation, monitoring and evaluation of waste diversion demonstration programs designed to test options and support the client's overall environmental objectives
  • Development of staff/public motivation and education programs
  • Development of systemized computer tracking and monitoring programs

Over the past 25 years, environmental assessments have been undertaken for an assortment of clients, including:

  • McDonald's Restaurants (Canada, U.S.)
  • Air Canada (Canada)
  • James River Corporation (U.S.)
  • Canadian Pacific Forest Products Limited (Canada, U.S.)
  • The Body Shop (Canada)
  • Cara (Canada)
  • FBM Distilleries (Canada)
  • Bank of Nova Scotia (Canada)
  • Labatt's Breweries (Canada)
  • Xerox Corporation (U.S.)
  • R²X Corporation (U.S.)
  • Municipalities across North America

Due to this experience, in 1992 the Waste Reduction Office (WRO) of the Ministry of Environment and Energy contracted RDC to develop sector-specific waste audit and waste reduction action plan guidelines for the Foodservice, Retail Shopping Malls, Hotel and Motel Establishments and Construction and Demolition sectors. Each sector-specific guideline provided the rationale to undergo an audit; detailed the step-by step procedure to conduct a solid waste audit specific to the needs of that sector; and, outlined the logic and methodology for the development and implementation of a sector-specific waste reduction action plan.
